What is an AED?

An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation.

The application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allows the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm; AED’s save lives.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can delay the damage to the heart after cardiac arrest, allowing for a slightly longer time for effective defibrillation.

This CPR and Defibrillation course is taught in accordance with the Resuscitation Council Guidelines (UK) 2021.
